Finding a Counselor

As a mental health counselor, I have seen God bring incredible healing, change, and growth through the counseling process. Obviously, as a counselor, I believe that counseling can be helpful!

In fact, there are many seasons of life when professional counseling can be helpful. This is true for individuals, couples, families, pastors – everyone. But, please know that counseling is not a necessary requirement in order to experience healing or change. God works however He chooses.

I know that there can be a lot of questions about the counseling process, and it is my goal today to help answer some of those questions for you.

That’s why I’ve recorded two podcast episodes specifically to address the most common questions that I hear.

Questions like…

  • would counseling be helpful for me?
  • is there really a difference between a counselor and a therapist?
  • how do I find a good counselor?
  • should Christians get mental health counseling?

And more! Below, you’ll find a link to each of these episodes as well as a link to the show notes for each episode. This will give you a very thorough overview of the episodes, if you prefer to read rather than listen (or, in addition to listening).

Please remember that all information and resources from Love Your People™ LLC Well are not a substitute for counseling. You can read our full disclaimer policy here.

Part 1: When might counseling be helpful? What is the difference between all of the professionals?

In part 1, we are looking at three particular questions:

  • When should I think about getting counseling? Would counseling help me?
  • What is the difference between a therapist and a counselor? What about a life coach? A pastor? A psychologist?

Pray for guidance

Ultimately, the Holy Spirit is our source of peace, comfort, joy, and healing. Whatever you are struggling with, please know that God knows the full situation. He loves you and He wants the best for your relationships and for your life. The closer you draw to him, the more emotional health and healing you will find.

Make sure to continue in prayer not only for your struggle and for your relationships, but also for your counseling journey. Pray for guidance in connecting with the right counselor. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill every counseling session with his wisdom and truth. Seek Christ-given healing, hope, and restoration.

And know that here at Love Your People Well, we are praying with you.
